Frequently Asked Questions(FAQs)

Here, you’ll find answers to some common FAQs about kids’ dental health, as well as links to additional information and resources from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD)

According to the AAPD, your child should see a pediatric dentist when the first tooth appears, or no later than his/her first birthday.

For more information about dental health in your baby’s first year, check out the “Get it Done in Year One” checklist.

A check-up every six months is usually recommended in order prevent cavities and other dental problems. However, your pediatric dentist can tell you when and how often your child should visit based on their personal oral health.

Read up more here on the importance of regular dental visits.

Parents should take their children to the dentist regularly, beginning with the very first tooth. Then, the dentist can recommend a specific program of brushing, flossing, and other treatments for parents to supervise and teach to their children. These home treatments, when added to regular dental visits and a balanced diet, will help give your child a lifetime of healthy habits.

For more on the benefits of preventive dentistry, check out the AAPD’s brochure here.

According to the AAPD, thumb and pacifier sucking habits usually only become a problem if they go on for a very long period of time. Most children stop these habits on their own, but if they are still sucking their thumbs or fingers past the age of three, consult with their dentist about ways to modify these behaviors.

You can read more about thumb sucking and pacifier use here.

There is very little risk in dental X-rays. Pediatric dentists are especially careful to limit the amount of radiation that children are exposed to. Tools like lead aprons and high-speed film are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation.

Check out the AAPD brochure on this topic here.

Our COVID policies

At Greenburgh Kids Dental, we remain focused on the health and well-being of our team and our patients. To ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone, we are following the direction of the CDC, the American Dental Association, and the New York State Dept. of Health by implementing the following policies and procedures:

How you can help us ensure a safe environment

  • In the days leading up to your child’s appointment, we will reach out to you to ask some health-screening questions.
  • To minimize the amount of people in the office, we will be allotting extra time between patients. If you are more than 15 minutes late, we may need to reschedule your appointment.
  • When you arrive for your appointment, please pull into a parking spot, and then call or text 914-997-8820 to let us know you are here. We will let you know when to bring your child to the front door.
  • We ask that patients come in for their appointments alone while parents/guardians wait outside or in their cars.  Exceptions will be made for younger patients and/or patients with special needs.
  • We ask that everyone entering our office please wear a mask. Temperature screenings will be performed, and hand sanitizer will be administered at the front door.

What we’re doing to ensure your safety:

  • We have installed medical/hospital grade air purifiers/HEPA filters to eliminate airborne particles, including viruses.
  • Cleanliness and impeccable infection control have always been hallmarks of our practice; you may notice we have taken these measures to the next level, especially when it comes to our use of enhanced personal protection equipment (PPE).
  • In addition to universal infection control protocols, which we are following per CDC and OSHA guidelines, all high-contact surfaces are regularly disinfected throughout the day.
  • All of our team members receive daily temperature checks.

Partitions have been put in place between dental chairs for added safety.
